China to become an Urban country by 2015

It was reported in various outlets yesterday that by 2015 China is projected to officially become an Urban society - meaning more people will live in the nation’s cities rather than the more traditional rural lifestyle.

For thousands of years, China has been an agrarian society.  Only since the country made its first steps toward capitalism 30 years ago did it start to truly urbanize.  Its urbanization has been slowly gathering pace and for the past 10 years, the world has seen the biggest migration in human history, and all from within this one country.

Anyway, the rapid modernization of both China and India represents, in my opinion, the greatest urban planning problem in history.  I assume this process is already underway.  Since I am weeks away from starting my own education in Urban Planning, I would like to learn more about planning in China and what projects are currently being worked on and what is expected in the near future.  This will be the objective in the coming weeks for this blog (along with the usual bits and pieces).
